ABOUT AIDEN
At the start of 2019, I faced a big decision: should I continue working as an employee in the garage door industry, or take the leap and start my own business? After plenty of thought — and many conversations with family and friends who all said the same thing (“It’s about time!”) — I decided to go for it. That’s when Laporte Garage Doors was born.
My journey began at 22, working “on the tools” in the window and door installation trade. I gained experience with companies such as Everest, Supremo-Glaze, and Anglian Windows, before discovering there was an entire industry dedicated solely to garage doors.
After installing a few of the impressive German sectional doors — and really enjoying the precision and craftsmanship involved — I knew this was where I wanted to focus my career. I joined a local garage door company to learn more, but soon realised that opportunities to progress were limited; I was mostly fetching and carrying rather than truly learning the trade.
After six years, I decided to move further afield and joined a garage door firm in Romford. It was there that I truly honed my skills. My employer at the time was a wealth of knowledge, having previously worked for the industry giant PC Henderson before establishing his own successful business.
He had an encyclopedic understanding of garage doors from all manufacturers, had completed thousands of repairs, and approached every job with professionalism and courtesy. For over ten years, I worked alongside him, learning the skills and values that I carry with me today. He was the first to trust me to represent his brand independently — a responsibility I took seriously and one I believe I lived up to, especially as he continues to offer me guidance and advice to this day.
When the time came to start Laporte Garage Doors, I built the company on those same principles: quality workmanship, honesty, and genuine customer care. My goal is to continue serving the garage door needs of Essex for many years to come.
